COMMON QUESTIONS

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Is Bateleur suitable for first-time hunters?

Absolutely. We welcome hunters of all experience levels. Our Professional Hunters are experienced guides and teachers who prioritise safety, ethics and creating a rewarding safari experience, whether it is your first hunt or your fiftieth.

Can non-hunting guests or families join?

Yes. Non-hunting spouses, partners and observers are warmly welcomed. Guests can enjoy the comfort of the lodge, relax during hunting days, or take part in curated experiences such as fishing, nature-based outings and local excursions.

What hunting methods do you use?

We primarily use walk-and-stalk and spot-and-stalk hunting methods, always following fair-chase and ethical hunting principles. The terrain, conditions and species determine the most suitable approach.

What species are available?

Bateleur offers a wide variety of plains game, including species such as kudu, gemsbok, springbok and wildebeest, as well as selected dangerous game such as buffalo. Current availability and pricing are provided in the official price list.

Can I hunt multiple species during one safari?

Yes. Most safaris can be planned as combination hunts. Your Professional Hunter will help shape the hunt around your preferred species, available time and the conditions of the area.

What is the success rate?

Success rates for plains game are generally very good due to the quality and density of game on the concessions. Dangerous game hunting depends on many factors, with the focus always placed on a quality pursuit and fair opportunity on mature animals.

How do I get to Bateleur?

Most international guests arrive at OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg. From there, guests can travel via a connecting flight to Kimberley followed by a private road transfer, or a private charter flight directly to the lodge can be arranged.

What about firearm permits and importation?

South Africa requires a temporary firearm import permit, commonly known as SAPS 520. Our team can guide you through the process and connect you with trusted permit-handling specialists.

What should I pack?

A detailed packing list can be provided once your booking is confirmed. Recommended essentials include neutral-coloured hunting clothing, comfortable broken-in boots, a hat, sunscreen, binoculars and any personal medication.

What is the climate like?

The Northern Cape has a semi-arid climate. Days are generally warm to hot, with cooler mornings and evenings. Winter nights can become cold, while summers are hot, so layered clothing is recommended.

What amenities are available at the lodge?

The lodge offers 10 luxury en-suite rooms with air conditioning, Wi-Fi, 24/7 solar-powered electricity, a bar and lounge, a traditional boma and daily laundry service.

Is Wi-Fi available?

Yes. Wi-Fi is available at the lodge, although connectivity may be limited in more remote parts of the concession.
